Humanists strive to be ethical, rational and to find fulfilment in their lives in ways that do not cause harm to others. It allows for individual strength of character and purpose, whilst being accepting of the choices and situations of others who are not intentionally causing harm or damage in the world.

I think that is an excellent set of values to aspire to, and a sound way to ensure that my life is lived in a way that brings as few regrets as is possible.

What Humanism means for your service is that the eulogy is grounded in kindness, acceptance and honesty in its representation of the person being remembered, rather than being structured in a way to fulfil the requirements of any particular religious belief.

For my celebrant work I am a member of the Humanist Celebrant Scotland Network which provides professional support and guidance on continuous development and improvement.

I am affiliated with A Quiet Revolution (Scottish Registered Charity SC046655), which oversees the network. It’s a charity I support because of its values and activities, such as planting a tree for every ceremony conducted, and working to reduce funeral poverty in Scotland.
